KGM Motors UK, the brand formerly known as SsangYong, is set to unveil the Musso EV pickup truck to the UK this month.

The electric pickup will be on hand at SUPBIKERUN’s Lake District event, giving attendees a rare opportunity to take part in initial test drives.

Unveiled earlier this year, the pickup newcomer shares a name with the existing, diesel-powered Musso but is actually based on the recently launched Torres EVX electric SUV.

Specifications are still subject to change, but the vehicle currently features all-wheel-drive capability, an estimated range of up to 290 miles, and technology such as vehicle-to-load functionality, allowing equipment to be powered directly from the truck.

Insights gleaned from the early trial drives will help inform the vehicle’s potential development journey and offer a glimpse into how an all-electric pickup from KGM could be utilised in the UK.

Its debut at SUPBIKERUN – the UK’s only adventure triathlon series combining stand-up paddleboarding, cycling and trail running – forms part of a partnership with KGM UK that will also see the Musso Saracen provide logistics support across all four of the triathlon’s UK venues.

Kevin Griffin, managing director at KGM Motors UK, said: “SUPBIKERUN is all about adventure and new experiences, which makes it a fitting environment for participants to test drive the Musso EV for the very first time. At this stage, it is about seeing what’s possible for an electric pickup and engaging with people who will ultimately shape its future.”

KGM debuted the Musso pickup in April at a global test drive event at its Experience Center in Seoul, South Korea. Initial tech details revealed an 80.6kWh Blade battery sourced from BYD under the firms’ technology partnership, offering a driving range of around 400km (249 miles). It’s expected to offer two- and four-wheel drive versions.

A new rival to the Maxus eTerron 9 and Isuzu D-Max EV along with the Ford Ranger PHEV, the Musso EV “combines the rugged utility of a pickup with the ride comfort and quietness of a premium SUV”. KGM also says the model also supports extensive customisation options suited for both urban use and outdoor lifestyles.
