Kirkland was previously at SSE plc where he was responsible for a product to reduce energy consumption for the UK’s street lighting.

His new appointment will see him support InstaVolt’s work to develop its nationwide electric vehicle charging network, including the new app, which will complement its existing contactless payment option.

CEO Adrian Keen said: “We have already earned a reputation as EV drivers’ favourite charging network, and we believe that’s down to our commitment to accessibility and reliability. As well as growing our network of chargers we are also looking to expand the ways that our customers interact with our network.

“We will continue to offer contactless payment but we recognise that many customers like the benefits and added functionality that a mobile app offers, so this is a really exciting development for us.”
