Nissan Qashqai gets bold new look and updated connected tech

Nissan has given its Qashqai a comprehensive makeover, complete with a bold new look and latest infotainment and connected features.

First launched in 2007 as the pioneer of the crossover revolution and now in its third generation, the family SUV has been updated with a new-look front-end. This includes a front grille now inspired by the scales on ancient Japanese armour, along with revamped and sharper-looking headlights and daytime running lights. There’s a new gloss black finish for the profile while the rear gains redesigned taillights with a ‘boomerang’ line that runs through to create the dynamic indicator signal, aside a reshaped bumper.

The line-up also gets new diamond-cut alloy designs, colour choices and the arrival of the N-Design grade. This sits above the Acenta Premium and N-Connecta and below the N-Design and Tekna+, delivering standout features, body-coloured details and 20-inch alloy wheels which bring added on-road presence.

Interior updates are not quite so bold but still extensive; new patterned materials make their debut along with Alcantara and updated seat trims for higher-spec models, plus ambient lighting. N-Design grade adds in black leather with quilting, and Alcantara inserts with embossed ‘Qashqai’ inserts.

Extensive technology upgrades see the refreshed Qashqai become the first vehicle in Nissan’s European range with Google features built-in, providing access to Google Maps and the Google Assistant, which enables voice control for things such as controlling temperature, wipers or navigation.

Drivers also get access to an “ecosystem” of apps that are available for download on Google Play and enable them to listen to their favourite music, podcasts, audiobooks, and more directly from their vehicle.

The Nissan Connected Services app can be used to check on security and close the windows and lock the car remotely. In case of suspected theft, the Qashqai can be immobilised and third-party vehicle theft recovery firms alerted.

Qashqai customers with a data plan subscription can also use Amazon’s Alexa smart home system. Customers can talk to Amazon Alexa in their Qashqai. With Alexa, they can ask to play music, hear the news, check weather, control smart home devices, and more.

Engine line-up is carried over and includes the mild hybrid petrols and the innovative e-Power hybrid. Launched on both the Qashqai and X-Trail in September 2022, the latter uses an electric motor to drive the front wheels, while the 1.5-litre petrol engine solely generates the electricity sent to the e-motor. This delivers instant, high torque and a linear response more akin to an EV-drive sensation without drivers having to charge the Qashqai.
