Oxford launches first Electric Car Club

Run by E-Car Club along with community group Low Carbon Oxford North, the scheme will use a Nissan LEAF based in Summertown and will offer a specially designated parking space and electric charging point in Diamond Place car park provided by Oxford City Council.

E-Car Club has already launched an all-electric car sharing club in London, which is running a fleet of four cars, based in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, and has ambitions for a nationwide roll-out.

The North Oxford E-Car Club is open to anyone, with a one-off membership cost of £50 and car hire for £6.50 per hour. Members can book the vehicle by phone or online and the E-Car can be reserved for as little as an hour or as long as several days. Each member is provided with a smart card and secure code with which to access the electric car as well as E-Car Club cars across the UK.

As part of its plans to launch further schemes, E-Car added that it is interested in hearing from local groups who might benefit from an electric car club.
