Shurgard Self-Storage to build ultra-fast charging stations in UK and Netherlands
Shurgard Self-Storage is to introduce ultra-rapid charging stations at its locations in the UK and the Netherlands under a new partnership.
It’s teamed up with Leap24, a provider of ultra-fast charging stations for electric commercial vehicles, with the aim to create emission-free last-mile delivery and mobility hubs.
Leap24 will take responsibility for the design, installation and maintenance of the ultra-fast charging stations at around 70 Shurgard locations. Each will have an ultra-rapid charging station with two parking spaces and a 240kW dual fast-charger that can recharge vehicles to approximately 80% in 30 minutes.
In the UK, 24 sites in and around London will be transformed for charging, along with 46 in the Netherlands – chosen their locations around environmental or zero-emission zones, on busy routes, or near businesses. Each will be open 24 hours a day, publicly accessible and able to accept all common charging and bank cards.
Shurgard and Leap24 said the collaboration was a strategic move to meet the growing demand for sustainable mobility and logistics in major urban areas. Flexible storage spaces combined with ultra-fast charging stations are the ideal solution for more sustainable urban logistics and last mile deliveries.
Pelle Schlichting, founder of Leap24, said: “The collaboration between Shurgard and Leap24 provides a unique boost to the realisation of emission-free mobility hubs. The unique combination of flexible storage and electric charging at perfect locations is a key ingredient for the success of zero-emission zones in many Dutch cities and the development of our network in and around London.”
The first ultra-fast charging stations in London are expected to be operational by the end of 2024.
