Škoda previews electric Octavia estate with Vision O concept

Škoda has given a sneak peek of its upcoming Octavia Electric estate with the first concept car silhouettes.

The Vision O concept previews a fully electric estate version of the next-generation Octavia

Due for a full reveal this September at the Munich motor show – officially known as IAA Mobility – the concept paves the way for a fully electric estate version of the next-generation Octavia due by the end of the decade.

The study will give an outlook on the brand’s future in the estate segment and also presents an evolution of the Modern Solid design language. The concept features a “sleek, distinctive silhouette” that’s predominantly shaped by the light contours, an aerodynamic body, steeply raked windscreen and the gently sloping roof typical of Škoda estate models. It will also be “characterised by the combination of functionality and user experience”.

As with the electric successor to the Golf, it will be built on Volkswagen Group’s forthcoming Scalable Systems Platform (SSP), a next-generation, all-electric vehicle platform designed to underpin a wide range of models across all of its brands as the successor to the MEP and PPE platforms.

At the same time, the Vision O reflects Škoda’s 130-year tradition and underlines the company’s commitment to sustainable innovation. The ‘Vision O’ name is said to be derived from the concept of circularity and a holistic approach to recycling and reusing components.

Klaus Zellmer, CEO of Škoda Auto, said: “The Škoda Vision O design study will highlight the future trajectory of estate models under the influence of new technologies, sustainability and the deep experience of Škoda Auto in this segment. This will be one of our most significant steps in developing and evolving our design language even further for this period of transition in the automotive industry.

“It will position us to remain a major player in the estate segment, where Škoda Auto has been engaged since the 1920s.”

The Vision O concept continues Škoda’s legacy of estate cars, which includes historical models such as the L&K 110, known for its variable body options, the 1101 Tudor Station Wagon (STW) with a folding rear seat, and the 1200/1201/1202 model family.

The most popular Škoda estate is the Octavia. First introduced in 1960, it’s racked up sales of more than three million units over the four generations produced since 1998. The Superb estate, which arrived in 2008 with the second modern-generation Superb, has also proved popular.

The world premiere of the Škoda Vision O will take place in Munich this September.
