Suzuki’s first fully electric car will be priced from £29,999 when sales start next month, the brand has announced.

The e Vitara small SUV arrives as a rival to the Kia EV, Vauxhall Mokka Electric and Ford Puma Gen-E – as well as the Toyota Urban Cruiser that it’s been developed alongside under the carmakers’ collaboration.

The all-new model – which only shares a name with the Vitara hybrid and mild hybrid SUV – is based on the newly developed Heartect-e platform designed specifically for BEVs to maximise battery capacity and onboard space.

It will be available with two battery sizes and either Motion and Ultra grades, as well as the option of Suzuki’s all-new Allgrip-e four-wheel-drive system. Suzuki is currently one of only a few brands to offer 4×4 as an option in this sector and will be spotlighting this – and its vast experience of 4×4 technology and 55-year anniversary of Allgrip – as a USP.

Range is yet to be confirmed but is expected to be 214 miles (WLTP) for the smaller battery and 266 miles for the larger battery in 2WD, likely to be the best seller.

The £29,999 opening price will get fleets and drivers the base 49kWh battery model equipped with a 144hp front-mounted motor and base-level Motion equipment grade.

From there, the line-up jumps £3k to £32,999 for the entry 61kWh battery model, which gets a larger 174hp front motor, in the same Motion trim, or £35,799 for the same version but with the higher Ultra grade.

For those seeking four-wheel drive, the line-up will include two models with Suzuki’s new Allgrip-e electric system, both married up with the larger battery and adding a 65hp rear motor with 300Nm of torque. They’re available for £34,999 in Motion guise and £37,799 as the top-rung Ultra Allgrip-e 4WD.

Suzuki will also offer 0% finance from launch with a two-year PCP agreement, as well as a free Ohme home charger to customers who order their e Vitara by 30 September plus 10,000 home charging miles credit. The e Vitara will also come with up to 10 years / 100,000 miles for the vehicle and EV battery warranty.
