Vauxhall’s flagship Grandland Electric AWD has landed, bringing high-performance and dual-motor capabilities.
The first fully electric Vauxhall with all-wheel drive, the Grandland Electric AWD delivers enhanced power of 325hp and torque of 509Nm, giving stronger straight-line performance, combined with upgraded handling.
Available in GS and Ultimate trims, it’s priced from £36,995 but that’s cut to £35,495 with the £1,500 Electric Car Grant – bizarrely making it £1,510 less than the equivalent single-motor version.
The powertrain features a 73kWh usable lithium-ion NMC battery that delivers up to 311 miles (WLTP) of range. Max DC charging is 160kW, giving a 20% to 80% charge in 26 minutes.
The system also combines the 213hp front-wheel-drive electric motor featured in the standard Grandland Electric with an additional 112hp electric motor for the rear wheels. The combined 325hp gives a 0-62mph time of 6.1 seconds.
Handling also gets an upgrade for the new top-rung Vauxhall thanks to dampers with frequency-selective damping technology. Depending on the situation, road surface conditions and driving style, this enables different damping capabilities for comfortable “gliding” at high frequencies as well as for a sporty, dynamic driving style with direct contact with the road at low frequencies.
The Grandland Electric AWD also gets specific spring, anti-roll bar, steering and ESC tuning.
Drivers can also choose between four distinct drive modes: Normal, AWD, Sport and Eco.
Standard equipment on entry GS models includes a 16-inch centrally mounted infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus satellite navigation, complete with wireless smartphone charging. There’s also a 10-inch digital cluster for the driver.
GS models also get 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, a black roof, front and rear high gloss black bumpers, a rear glossy black spoiler, dark-tinted rear windows and an illuminated 3D Vauxhall Vizor and Griffin. Unique to the AWD version, a power tailgate is also offered as standard.
The interior comes with a heated steering wheel, ambient lighting with a choice of seven colours and the Pixel Box phone storage in the centre console.
Safety features as standard include a rear-view camera, adaptive cruise control with stop and go function, lane keep assist, intelligent speed adaptation, front and rear parking sensors, and Intelli-LED headlights and rear lights.
The higher Ultimate trim adds Lane Change Assist, Semi-Autonomous Lane-Change, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Curve-Speed Adaptation and Intelli-Vision (a 360-degreen panoramic camera). Ultimate models also get Vauxhall’s Intelli-Lux HD headlights.
Inside, a heated windscreen, heated front seats and power folding rear mirrors are added with the Ultimate trim, while the sound system is upgraded to a Focal premium hi-fi sound system featuring 10 speakers and a subwoofer. Ultimate trim also features Intelli-HUD, an extended head-up display providing the driver with essential information.
Outside, the standard 19-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels are increased to 20-inch on the Grandland Electric AWD Ultimate.
