The new variants join the existing diesel and fully electric versions of the Transporter panel van as well as the diesel editions of the Transporter Kombi and Transporter Shuttle launched last month.

It’s the first time that the Kombi van and the Shuttle have been available with an all-electric powertrain, which teams up a 136hp rear motor with a 65kWh lithium-ion battery and comes with a heat pump as standard.

Aimed at tradespeople who need to transport their crew as well as tools and equipment, the new battery electric (BEV) variant of the Transporter Kombi is priced from £53,404 and available on a short or long wheelbase, seating five as standard, with the option to add a sixth seat.

The fully electric powertrain delivers a WLTP range of up to 196 miles and a payload of up to 896kg.

As with the diesel Kombi, it’s available in Plus and Pro grades. Equipment carried over from the diesel Plus version includes 12-inch digital driver display, 13-inch touchscreen infotainment display with wireless app connect and DAB radio, plus a 5G modem. The BEV model also gains all-season tyres and heated front seats with individual controls.

The Kombi Commerce Plus BEV gets the same features as the TDI, such as heated windscreen and front seats, single-zone air con and wireless mobile phone charging, and again adds in all-season tyres and heated front seats with individual controls.

The BEV Transporter Shuttle is priced from £56,129 and also comes with long or short wheelbase options, providing ample space for eight seats as standard with the option to add a ninth. It’s targeted at families and professional hire companies.

The powertrain is carried over from the Kombi and has a WLTP range of up to 194 miles.

Like the diesel Shuttle, it’s available in Life and Style grades, which replicate the equipment of the TDI models but with extra features such as all-season tyres.

Customers of the BEV Transporter Kombi and Shuttle variants also get Volkswagen’s enhanced warranty and service plan, the 5+ Promise, at no extra cost. This comprises three services, three MOTs, a five-year Warranty and five years’ roadside assistance.
