Lewisham Council is working with Zest to install at least 200 charging points across the borough to support EV drivers without driveways.

The first charger, on Childers Street, went live in December and there are now 14 charging spaces live in Lewisham.

The major expansion of public EV charging across the borough focuses specifically on households who rely on on-street parking.

The charge points are being delivered at no cost to the council or the taxpayer.

Zest is investing an initial £1.5m to install, operate and maintain the charging network over the next 15 years. In addition, the council secured £100,000 through the Government’s former On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS).

Robin Heap, CEO of Zest, said: “Lewisham is demonstrating real ambition in its plans for a low-carbon transport system. By prioritising reliable on-street charging, the council is making it easier for households without private parking to participate in the transition to electric vehicles. Our role is to support that long-term vision with infrastructure that residents can rely on today and for years to come.”
