Kia is adding a Sportswagon variant to its K4 line-up in Europe, delivering added practicality to fleets and drivers seeking petrol-powered family cars.

The new model swiftly follows the launch of the K4 hatchback, which opened for orders late 2025, and is aimed at customers looking for more space and flexibility combined with a firm focus on design.

As with the hatch, it straddles both the C- and D-segments, indirectly replacing the Ceed SW and delivering a rival to the Škoda Octavia, showing Kia’s faith in the estate car segment.

Design reinterprets Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ philosophy as a longer, more functional silhouette that carries over the Korean carmaker’s Star Map Signature Lighting and inverted L-shaped LED rear lights, and delivers a “distinctive, tech-focused wagon”. The line-up will also include a GT-Line variant that adds high-gloss black details, bespoke front and rear bumpers, and a unique cabin experience.

Alongside design, the K4 Sportswagon also places strong focus on everyday practicality, with up to 604 litres of luggage space with the seats in place; that’s 166 litres more than the 438 offered by the hatchback. And with the rear seats folded, the K4 SW has up to 1,439 litres of space that’s up for grabs. It also gets an exclusive power tailgate opening for hands-free convenience, aiding loading and unloading.

Like its hatchback counterpart, the Sportswagon is available with a variety of petrol and electrified powertrains and positioned as a practical option for drivers still transitioning to electrification.

Engine options start with a 115hp 1.0-litre T-GDi petrol engine with a six-speed manual transmission; also available as a mild hybrid version with an optional seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Sitting above this is a 1.6-litre T-GDi petrol engine with either 150 or 180hp and solely available with the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Later in 2026, the powertrain line-up will expand to include a full hybrid option.

The interior replicates the “tech-forward” cabin concept of the K4 line-up and is dominated by a panoramic display that integrates a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, a 5.3-inch climate display and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, supported by Kia’s Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (CCNC).

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across all trims, with a wireless phone charger available in higher grades. Options include heated and ventilated front seats wrapped in black bio-based artificial leather upholstery and a Harman Kardon premium audio system.

Drivers can use compatible smartphones as virtual keys with the Digital Key 2 and also have access to an array of digital tools, such as over-the-air (OTA) updates, music streaming and Wi-Fi hotspot capability, through Kia Connect along with an AI-powered voice assistant.

Kia Connect also enables access to popular streaming services such as Netflix, Disney+ and YouTube.

Advanced driver assistance technologies include Blind-Spot View Monitor, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Highway Driving Assist 2.0, Smart Cruise Control 2, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist 2 and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist.

Pablo Martínez Masip, vice president of product & marketing at Kia Europe, said: “The wagon body style allows the K4 to compete beyond the traditional C-segment.

“Its generous luggage capacity and advanced technology make it a compelling option for customers considering larger vehicles.”

The K4 is produced at Kia Mexico (KMMX) in Pesquería, Nuevo León, alongside the including the B-segment K3 sold in other markets. The carmaker has stated that the latter model is not planned for launch in Europe.
