Audi has given its Q4 e-tron electric crossover a major midlife refresh, adding extra range, greater charging capacity and a bundle of new technologies.
On sale from June, the revised SUV and Sportback models benefit from a raft of significant upgrades to the EV drive systems.
Battery options remain the same, with 63kWh (gross) or 82kWh (gross), but a more efficient electric motor boosts range. As an example, the enhanced rear-wheel-drive Q4 Sportback e-tron performance now offers up to 367 miles of range (final UK specs TBC); up by around 18 miles. For the all-wheel drive models, the gain is between 10 and 20 miles, depending on the variant.
Everyday usability is also improved by the increased towing capacity of 1,800kg (+400 kg) in the models with quattro all-wheel drive.
Charging capabilities also get a boost. In the Q4 SUV e-tron quattro performance and Q4 Sportback e-tron quattro performance, the maximum SUV charging capacity has increased from 175kW to 185kW, cutting the time taken for battery charges from 10 to 80% in about 27 minutes for some models. For the Q4 Sportback e-tron quattro performance, it means drivers can now add 115 miles of range in just 10 minutes. Plus, the battery can be automatically or manually preconditioned for better charging performance. Plug & Charge is also new as standard: at compatible charging stations, the car automatically authenticates itself with an Audi charging contract when the cable is plugged in, starts the charging process, and handles billing automatically at session end.
The Q4 e-tron also becomes the first Audi model to support bidirectional charging – the EV battery can both receive energy from the grid and feed it back to external devices. As an example, drivers can use the vehicle-to-load (V2L) function to charge e-bikes from a power socket in the boot or via an adapter on the charging port.
And in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the Q4 e-tron can also serve as a home battery supplying stored energy to the household through vehicle-to-home (V2H); again marking an Audi first.
On the outside, there’s a sharper design and new lighting that includes digital LED daytime running lights with segmented technology, plus second-generation digital OLED rear lights and optional proximity lighting.
The interior takes a “leap in comfort and flexibility” with a new “digital stage” combining a panoramic display with an 11.9-inch instrument cluster, a 12.8-inch MMI touch display, plus an optional 12-inch passenger display.
The German brand has also upgraded comfort and entertainment functions with the new One Connected Infotainment. The intelligent Audi assistant controls vehicle functions via voice command and can answer questions about the logbook. Thanks to ChatGPT integration, occupants can query information and interact naturally with the car. There’s also new dynamic interaction lighting, a new centre console and two cooled inductive charging trays, each with 15 watts of power.
The upgraded Audi Q4 e-tron also introduces new driver assist systems. Depending on the vehicle’s specification, Technology, Comfort and Dynamic packages are available. At market launch, standard features include parking system plus with distance display, cruise control (including speed limiter) with preparation for adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning with emergency assist, traffic sign recognition, attention and fatigue warning with driver monitoring, and active front assist with evasion and turn assist, front cross traffic assist, and front emergency brake assist. Adaptive driving assistant plus is also available, along with optional trained parking, reverse assist, park assist plus and four wide-angle surround view cameras.
UK sales will begin in June, with deliveries expected to start later in the summer. Prices for the Q4 SUV e-tron start at £46,260 (OTR), with the additional cost for the Sportback set at £1,900 across the line-up. The revised Q4 e-tron trim structure in the UK comprises: Sport, S Line, Black Edition and Vorsprung specifications.
