Jaguar tears up the rulebook with dramatic Type 01 cabin architecture

Jaguar has given a first look at its dramatic new Type 01 interior ahead of its official global debut.

Uncovered ahead of the car’s full reveal in New York on 6 October 2026, the images reveal a radical cabin design built around a striking central spine with a “tonal” interior palette and a “cossetting and confidence‑inspiring driving position”.

The Jaguar Type 01 is an upcoming, high-performance all-electric luxury Grand Tourer (GT) that spearheads Jaguar’s complete brand reinvention and its shift to an exclusive, zero-emission line-up. The ‘Type’ designation honours the brand’s legendary predecessors, while ‘0’ is for zero tailpipe emissions and ‘1’ is for the first of a new generation.

It’s already been seen in camouflaged prototype form but will be fully uncovered in production-ready guise in October, complete with a tri-motor setup exceeding 1,000 horsepower and a range of around 400 miles.

Heavily based on the Type 00 concept, the production version features a central spine that runs the full length of the cabin and creates four individual spaces, each with its own individual seat.

Jaguar tells us that Type 01 is a “deeply sensorial experience”, heavily influenced by the raw textures of the natural world. The tonal interior palette directly reflects the enduring beauty of travertine stone, which pairs with rich, artisan textiles, a brass-inspired finish on the central spine and door tops embossed with the iconic Jaguar leaper.

Thomas Holden, chief interior designer at Jaguar, said: “Our holistic design philosophy translates the vehicle’s exterior presence into a distinctive interior architecture. In contrast to the horizontal interior design norm, we emphasise its dramatic longitudinal nature through the central spine – an architectural statement that creates four individual spaces. With authentic materials, technology on demand and reductive flowing surfaces, Type 01 presents unmistakable drama and theatre that will define the modern luxury automotive interior of the future.”

There’s a low-slung set-up for the driver that “cossets and inspires confidence”, and the interior also gets a panoramic roof.

The interior uses a long, flowing style that links the inside and outside of the vehicle. To ensure its sleek design, technologies are “hidden until needed” and compartments are concealed.

One notable point is the digital ClearSight Rear View Display, a camera-based screen system that replaces a standard glass mirror to give drivers a completely wide, unblocked view behind the car, as with the Polestar 4.

Rawdon Glover, managing director at Jaguar, said: “Jaguar Type 01 is the first production car to follow our new creative philosophy. Unmistakable from every angle, the interior is no different. With Type 01, we wanted every journey to be an occasion, from how it drives to how it looks and how it makes you feel. With a confidence‑inspiring GT driving position, clean and sophisticated technology and dramatic styling, Type 01 has an interior like no other.”

A prototype of the Type 01 is currently on display at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance wearing a brand-new camouflage wrap, ahead of the reveal of the production-ready Type 01 in early October.
