Extra MSA and Gridserve have rolled out more ultra-rapid chargers across the Peterborough and Cobham motorway services, supporting the decarbonisation of the motorway network.

As part of their ongoing partnership, the pair have installed 18 additional charging bays at Peterborough Services (A1(M) J17) and 24 at Cobham Services (M25 J9/10).

This brings the total for each location to 48 ultra-rapid chargers through Extra’s partnerships with both Ionity and Gridserve.

The new chargers are capable of supplying 400kW, enabling drivers with the latest car models to add over 100 miles of range in less than 10 minutes.

The new openings form part of a number of installations as part of the Super Hubs partnership between Extra and Gridserve, such as Baldock, Beaconsfield and Cambridge. Each installation enables Extra MSA’s customers nationwide to access a minimum of 12 ultra-rapid Gridserve chargers per location – with further EV charger expansions occurring at the network’s Leeds and Cullompton sites throughout 2026.

Extra MSA is pushing ahead with the rollout of motorway charging and says it was first to surpass the Government’s targets of installing at least six chargers at each of its service areas.

Since 2021, Gridserve and Extra have worked in partnership, with Gridserve providing medium-power EV charging across Extra’s network since it acquired the Electric Highway in 2021.

Extra MSA currently operates eight MSAs across England at Baldock (A1(M) J10); Beaconsfield (M40 J2); Blackburn with Darwen (M65 J4); Cambridge (A14(M11) J24); Cobham (M25 J9/10); Cullompton (M5 J28); Leeds Skelton Lake (M1 J45); and Peterborough (A1(M) J17).
