Electric vehicle charge point operator Allego has announced a €100 million (approximately £85.6 million) investment plan to expand its UK charging network by 2030.

Backed by long-term infrastructure investor Meridiam, the funding will deliver up to 1,400 new ultra-fast charging points.
The network expansion will focus heavily on high-traffic locations along major road corridors and motorways, as well as densely populated urban areas, with London identified as a key priority. The project is expected to create jobs across Allego’s UK operations and supply chain, covering site identification, construction engineering, and network maintenance.
Allego, which has been operating in the UK since 2017, views the British market as a significant growth area. The company notes that while the transition to electric vehicles continues to accelerate, the domestic public charging network currently remains undersized compared to growing driver demand and more developed markets in continental Europe.
The rollout will rely on Allego’s standard commercial business model, which removes the financial burden from property partners.
To support the expansion, Allego is seeking new partnerships with retail and hospitality businesses, alongside private landowners and property firms capable of hosting ultra-fast hubs at strategic locations. The company already operates similar host relationships across Europe, including partnerships with Ikea in Belgium, Rewe in Germany, and Burger King in France.
Commenting on the investment, Steven Salo, executive officer at Allego, said: “The UK is electrifying quickly, but to keep up with demand the charging network must expand at the same pace. There is a clear need for more reliable, ultra-fast charging infrastructure, particularly along motorways and around the capital.
“We believe that the new Government will make the right policy decisions to help this market grow. With a supportive and stable policy and investment environment, the EV charging sector can deliver a significant economic growth opportunity for the UK while providing the infrastructure increasingly needed by drivers and businesses.”
Allego currently operates across 15 European countries, managing a wider network of more than 35,000 public charging points.
