The UK public electric vehicle charging network reached 122,724 chargers by the end of July 2026, new Zapmap data reveals.

A total of 1,553 net new units were added last month, including 359 new rapid and ultra-rapid units. Chargers are now spread across 47,441 locations and 1,056 operational hubs. Year-on-year, the number of chargers is up 9.5%.

Key highlights this summer include Moto Charge officially launching at Tamworth services on the M42, expanding the growing network of ultra-rapid EV chargers across UK motorways. The Super Hub at Tamworth services is Moto’s third launch of its own charge point operator brand, which has already launched at two previous locations earlier in the year at both Toddington North Services and Reading East Services.

This latest EV installation adds 12 new ultra-rapid charging bays capable of delivering up to 400kW. Together with 24 new Gridserve ultra-rapid charging bays and eight dedicated bays for electric HGVs and other extra-large electric vehicles, Moto Tamworth now offers 44 ultra-rapid charging bays.

Additionally, Allego announced plans to invest €100m (£85m) to install up to 1,400 new ultra-rapid EV chargers in the UK by 2030, with a focus on retail and hospitality partnerships in high-traffic locations and densely populated urban areas.

InstaVolt extended its partnership with property development and investment company, British Land to continue the rollout of charging across 18 retail parks, five of which are already live.

And major new Local EV Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund contract awards were awarded, including Char.gy installing 3,000 chargers in West Northants, Zest delivering over 1,000 in Hertfordshire, and Connected Kerb partnering with Bedford Borough Council for up to 900 chargers.

Jade Edwards, head of insights at Zapmap, commented: “As we enter into peak holiday season, with many people staying within the UK this summer, the public charging network continues to deliver where it is most needed. We now have over 63,000 EV chargers at destination locations, from car parks and supermarkets to leisure-focused accommodation, theme parks and heritage sites, alongside nearly 14,000 en-route chargers to keep EV drivers charged up on longer journeys.

“We know from our surveys that many EV drivers use the public charging infrastructure infrequently, in concentrated periods and in unfamiliar surroundings, such as during holidays. Having access to an aggregator app such as Zapmap enables drivers to find and pay for charging across networks in a familiar, consistent format, see live pricing, and get feedback on charger experiences from other drivers.”
