ABB launches DC wallbox charger and expands Terra range

By / 5 years ago / UK News / No Comments

ABB has launched a DC wallbox charger, delivering faster charge times than traditional AC systems, while also expanding its Terra EV charger range.

ABB has expanded its Terra range

The new smart DC charging system is designed for use at offices, dealerships and public parking places. By delivering 24kW power directly to the vehicle’s battery thanks to a high 60A output, it allows for a faster charging time than the typical on-board converter rated at 6 kW.

Frank Mühlon, Head of ABB’s Global Business for Electric Vehicle Charging, said: “We expect the DC wallbox to support greater adoption of e-mobility solutions by private vehicle owners and businesses alike and are proud to be driving further progress on the road to zero emission transport.”

The ABB DC wallbox is available with single or twin outlets, supporting both CCS and CHAdeMO standards and features a seven-inch full-colour, daylight readable touchscreen display.

ABB has also expanded its Terra series with new Terra 54 and Terra 54HV 50kW charging systems. Specifically designed to meet the needs of the rapidly evolving electric vehicle market, they are said to be ideally suited for service stations and car parks where quick charging is a must.

The Terra 54HV platform offers an extended voltage range of between 150 and 920 V to charge next generation EVs with high-voltage battery systems, while simultaneously supporting all existing 500 V battery EVs.

It boasts a number of new and improved features such as brighter user displays (for clearer readability in direct sunlight) with more flexible customization options, and optional CCV or Nayax payment terminals for use across different countries. Terra 54 also sees the introduction of upgraded payment functionality, which means users only pay for the kW’s used.

The company said the latest products could help increase adoption of e-mobility systems in public realm spaces and across commercial applications, with improved charge efficiencies through faster and smarter connected systems.

Frank Mühlon added: “The Terra 54 series further underlines our commitment to supporting the expansion of electric vehicle charging systems across the globe, creating more streamlined operating systems and bringing us closer to a future where zero-emission travel can become a reality for all.”
