Cenex has extended access to its NEVIS (National EV Insight and Strategy) service for all Welsh local authorities (LAs) until March 2027, thanks to continued funding from Transport for Wales.

Cenex, the UK’s Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Transport, has provided reliable, independent up-to-date information about electric vehicles and EV infrastructure to all Welsh LAs since 2023.

Over that time, NEVIS has supported 86 local authority officers across Wales with independent data, modelling and mapping tools to help forecast EV uptake, assess emissions impacts, develop local EV strategies and secure funding for charging infrastructure projects.

The extension provides Welsh councils with a further year of access to locally specific EV infrastructure planning tools, the UK Government-funded Knowledge Repository and a national networking platform. The move supports a more coordinated approach to EV infrastructure planning across Wales and the UK, helping local authorities deliver sustainable and equitable charging networks for their communities.

This means that over 85% of local authorities in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland can access to NEVIS, supporting a joined-up and nationally consistent approach to EV infrastructure policy, strategy and implementation planning.

This complements the wider support Transport for Wales already offers to local authorities to improve access to data, strengthen in-house capability and deliver EV charging infrastructure that is sustainable and equitable.

By providing consistent tools and insights, we’re enabling a more joined-up, informed approach to planning EV infrastructure that meets the needs of communities across Wales.”
