Audi Q5 gains 299hp plug-in-hybrid with 62-mile range

Audi’s third-generation Q5 is gaining a plug-in hybrid version with 299hp of power on tap and up to 62 miles of range.

First customer deliveries are scheduled for September

Available to order from July across both SUV and Sportback bodystyles, it’s priced from £56,740 and £59,240 respectively and joins the existing mild hybrid petrol and diesel versions launched late last year.

The new PHEV versions are driven by a 251hp 2.0 TFSI petrol engine married up to an electric motor mounted in the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The 299hp total output enables 0-62mph in 6.2 seconds and a top speed of 155mph. It’s solely available in the UK with Quattro Ultra all-wheel drive.

Battery capacity in the latest Q5 PHEV now stands at 25.9kWh (gross), up by some 45% compared to its predecessor. Maximum AC charging power has increased to 11kW, giving a full charge to 100% om around 2.5 hours.

Drivers can choose from EV and hybrid modes along with three levels of regenerative braking in EV mode, operated using paddles on the steering wheel.

Standard equipment includes S sports suspension, 19-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights front and rear, MMI Experience Plus infotainment system with the Audi Application Store, a smartphone interface and the Audi sound system, plus a fully adjustable rear seat bench.

The SUV has a boot volume of 438 litres, up to 1,358 litres, while the Sportback offers 433 litres, rising to 1,300 litres.

First customer deliveries are scheduled for September.
