BMW’s iX1 and iX2 SUVs are now over £10,000 cheaper following manufacturer price cuts and the securing of the UK’s maximum £3,750 Electric Car Grant.
Grant-eligible models are now cheaper than their petrol and diesel counterparts
The targeted price cuts mean the single-motor, front-wheel-drive eDrive20 variants are now eligible for the UK government’s grant bracket. Consequently, these all-electric models are now actually cheaper than their petrol and diesel counterparts.
For example, iX1 eDrive20 Sport is priced from £33,315 OTR including the grant, while a comparable X1 sDrive20i Sport is priced from £37,540 OTR. This broadens access to BMW’s all-electric product portfolio and marks a major win for premium electric driving.
In addition, the iX2 model range expands with the introduction of an extra qualifying model, the new iX2 eDrive20 Sport. This new derivative features 17-inch alloy wheels, high-gloss Shadowline exterior detailing and front sport seats, and will be sold alongside existing M Sport models.
Importantly, BMW also becomes the first premium German marque to qualify for the UK Government’s Electric Car Grant, which is also reliant on vehicles meeting strict environmental and sustainability criteria.
The qualification for the full Band 1 grant reflects BMW Group’s holistic approach to sustainability, supported by the company’s commitment to Science Based Targets initiative.
Qualification required proof of eco-focused manufacturing. BMW’s Regensburg plant – which produces more than 1,400 X1 and X2 model derivatives every day – uses 25,000 square meters of rooftop solar panels, generating 2.9 GWh of renewable energy annually.
Debbie McIntosh, sales director at BMW UK, said: “Securing the full Electric Car Grant for the iX1 and iX2 is an important step in making premium electric mobility more accessible to customers across the UK. With their combination of driving enjoyment, quality and everyday practicality, both models are a compelling choice for customers considering an all-electric BMW.”
