The extended warranty – which applies within the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland and the UK – has also been rolled out to existing BYD owners alongside new purchases.
Blade Battery technology features in all BYD’s ‘New Energy’ plug-in vehicles – pure electric and Super Hybrid. These cars already come with a basic coverage warranty of six years or 150,000km (93,750 miles), along with a 12-year, unlimited-mileage anti-perforation warranty and cover for the electric drive unit of eight years or 150,000km.
The mileage limit on the specific warranty for the Blade Battery now ramps up to the new level, while retaining the existing duration of cover at eight years and a guaranteed minimum state of health (SOH) of 70%.
BYD said the mileage increase would further strengthen user confidence in its New Energy Vehicles, with existing owners to benefit alongside new car customers.
BYD’s Blade Battery is made using lithium iron phosphate chemistry (LFP), a technology that offers greater safety, durability and sustainability, while eliminating reliance on valuable materials such as nickel and cobalt and reducing environmental impact.
Load and endurance testing has shown that the technology can exceed 3,000 charge and discharge cycles, with a service life equivalent to 1.2 million kilometres.
It’s also able to deliver high EV driving ranges — such as 570km (354 miles) in the combined cycle for the BYD Seal Design – or high charging speeds, such as those of the BYD Sealion 7 Excellence AWD, which has a maximum DC charging power of 230kW and can charge from 30% to 80% in 18 minutes.
