BYD has opened sales for its new Seal 6 DM-i Saloon and Touring plug-in hybrids, priced from £33,990 and £34,990 respectively.

Available in Boost and Comfort grades, the new models join BYD’s rapidly expanding PHEV line-up, alongside the Seal U DM-i SUV and the forthcoming petrol-electric version of its Atto 2 crossover, and also herald the Chinese brand’s first estate car model in Europe. They also deliver new rivals to models such as Volkswagen’s Passat eHybrid estate.

The Seal 6 DM-i Touring (see our review here) offers 500 litres of space up to the parcel shelf with the rear seats in place, which can be easily expanded to 1,535 litres using quick-release handles to lower the 40:60 split-folding rear bench. A power tailgate is standard on all versions.

The BYD-designed intelligent plug-in hybrid system is designed to “combine the refinement and responsiveness of EV driving with the flexibility of a petrol-electric powertrain”. It features a 98hp 1.5-litre petrol engine with high thermal efficiency, a 197hp electric motor and BYD’s Blade battery technology, either with 10.08kWh capacity for entry-level models or 19kWh for Comfort versions.

It’s able to provide up to 65 miles of all-electric driving (WLTP) and a potential range of up to 935 miles for the saloon. Respective figures for the Touring model are up to 62 miles and a range of up to 839 miles.

CO2 emissions for the saloon are 52g/km for Boost versions and drop to 34g/km for the top-rung Comfort versions. For the Touring, the figures are 60g/km for Boost and 38g/km for Comfort.

Total power is 184hp for the Boost saloon/Touring models and 212hp for the Comfort grades. The 0-62mph figures stand at 8.9 and 8.5 seconds respectively.

For Benefit-in-Kind, Boost saloon models attract a rate of 16% for the current financial year, while Comfort versions stand at 9%. Boost Touring versions are rated at 18% and Comfort Touring models are rated at 9%.

Boost models can charge at up to 3.3kW AC, giving a 15-100% charge in three hours. Touring versions can charge at up to 6.6kW AC, cutting the 15-100% charge time to two hours 42 minutes, and can replenish at 26kW DC, enabling a 30-80% charge in 23 minutes.

Boost is expected to be the best-selling version and comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, a 3.3kW onboard charger, automatic windscreen wipers and headlights, vegan leather upholstery and steering wheel trim, plus a six-speaker audio system. The entry grade also gets a 12.8-inch  infotainment touchscreen, front and rear USB ports – four in total – and smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The cabin also features power-adjustable front seats – six-way for the driver and four-way for the passenger – and footwell and door illumination. A smartphone key can be used for easy vehicle access.

Safety and driver assistance features include rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, blind spot detection and driver fatigue management. Rear cross traffic alert and braking and warnings for forward and rear collision and door opening are also included.

Comfort grade adds a 15.6-inch multimedia touchscreen, 18-inch alloys, a 6.6kW onboard charger, door mirror puddle lights and rear privacy glass. The cabin gains a panoramic roof with electric sunshade and multi-coloured ambient lighting, while comfort features include a heated steering wheel and heated/ventilated front seats, with a memory position setting for the driver.

An eight-speaker HiFi Sound audio package is provided, together with a wireless smartphone charger, and front parking sensors and a 360-degree camera are also added in.

The Seal 6 DM-i Saloon and Touring are available to order now, with first customer deliveries from December 2025.
