Cancer Research UK deploys electric vans to help raise funds and cut emissions

Cancer Research UK has expanded its retail logistics network by integrating new Renault Master E-Tech electric vans to support operations and reduce its local carbon footprint.

Vehicles were selected after evaluation of whole-life costs, electric range, payload and driver feedback

The fleet additions will be driven by Cancer Research UK’s full-time drivers and used to support movement of donated stock between local shops and the charity’s Regional Distribution Centre in Fleet. Each van is expected to cover up to 800 miles a week.

The new fleet has been equipped with racking, LED lighting and 360-degree parking sensors, while Cancer Research UK’s distinctive livery ensures they are instantly recognisable on the road.

The charity opted for the Master E-Tech electric LM35 (LWB Medium Roof) panel van following a comprehensive evaluation process based on whole-life costs, electric range, payload and driver feedback. Cancer Research UK already operates an all-Renault LCV fleet comprising a mix of panel vans, Luton low-floor vehicles and a Renault Kangoo E-Tech electric.

Colin Jones, senior contracts manager, fleet & travel at Cancer Research UK, said: “Every item we move through our retail network has the potential to help fund life-saving research, so having the right vehicles in place really matters. The Renault Master E-Tech electric gives our teams the space, range and usability they need to keep stock flowing from our Regional Distribution Centre into local shops, while helping us reduce local emissions from our operations.”

The Master E-Tech pairs a 143hp/300Nm electric motor with an 87kWh battery, delivering a WLTP range of up to 285 miles. DC fast charging can add up to 142 miles of range in 30 minutes. The Master also features enhanced payload capability with load spaces ranging from 11 to 20 cubic metres and a user-focused design created around everyday operator convenience.
