Canon UK has completed the replacement of its engineer diesel-powered fleet with electric and mild hybrid vehicles from Škoda.

Rollout of the new vehicles started in June in partnership with the Czech carmaker, with the full deployment completed in September.

Almost three-quarters (72%) of the fleet will consist of fully electric Enyaq SUVs, with the remaining 28% Octavia estate mild hybrids for drivers without access to home charging.

The programme will deliver tangible results towards Canon’s sustainability objectives by decarbonising its engineering and service operations.

The business has engineers working across the country and, by transitioning from a predominantly diesel-powered fleet to an electric fleet, expects to halve its Scope 1 operational emissions.

To encourage EV adoption, Canon offered free home chargers for engineers choosing an electric vehicle. For engineers who opted for the mild hybrid vehicles, enhanced mileage tracking and telematics will help reduce overall emissions and offset residual environmental impact.

The move towards a more sustainable fleet reinforces Canon’s commitment to being a responsible corporate citizen and aligns with its ‘Kyosei’ corporate philosophy – living and working together for the common good. It also marks a significant step towards meeting Canon’s commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

Together with its new all-electric and mild hybrid fleet, Canon is using technology to reduce the environmental impact of its servicing operation while continuing its focus on delivering exceptional customer service.
