Decathlon stores to get Be.EV ultra-rapid chargers

By / 4 months ago / UK News / No Comments

Decathlon is deploying ultra-rapid chargers at select stores across the country in a new deal with charging network Be.EV.

The outlets will be fitted with ultra-rapid chargers that allow drivers to charge their vehicle to 80% in as little as 20 minutes

Charging hubs are already being rolled out across various stores in the UK, with Decathlon’s Stockport site first across the line to start construction. The store is one of the largest in the UK – spanning over 52,000 sq ft – and 16 ultra-rapid charging bays are being installed, due for completion in April 2024.

The Kempower chargers will allow drivers to charge their vehicle to 80% in as little as 20 minutes – fitting in with Decathlon’s customer dwell time of around 30 minutes. This will enabling EV-driving customers to kill two birds with one stone and charge whilst they shop.

The chargers feature load-balancing abilities that intelligently distribute energy supply between vehicles according to capacity and demand.

The deal supports Decathlon’s mission to slash CO2 emissions 20% by 2026 under its Transition 2026 plan.

It also aligns with Be.EV’s work to sustainably accelerate the UK’s EV revolution and improve communities by installing chargers throughout the UK, backed by £110m from Octopus Energy Generation.

Asif Ghafoor, CEO and co-founder of Be.EV, said: “Our charging hubs will offer shoppers a convenient moment to charge their car, and Decathlon is getting ahead of the curve by providing reliable, high quality charging facilities for their customers.

“Other retailers should be taking note. As more and more people choose to drive electric vehicles, they’ll naturally gravitate to those brands that offer convenient charging whilst browsing their stores.”
