E.On Next slashes EV charging day rates while keeping ultra-low off-peak charging

E.On Next has repriced its electric vehicle tariffs, cutting costs on daytime rates while offering savings for off-peak charging compared to the Energy Price Cap.

The new Next Drive Smart and Next Drive Fixed EV tariffs cut day rates and offer off-peak charging from 6.5p/kWh

The new Next Drive Smart and Next Drive Fixed EV tariffs mean that EV drivers with at-home chargers can save more money on their energy bills when charging during the day.

The tariffs also continue to offer long and cheap off-peak windows for customers to fully charge their EV overnight from as little as £2.60.

Next Drive Smart v5.5 rates:

  • Off-peak (12am – 6am): 6.5p/kWh
  • Day rate (6am – 12am): 29.84p/kWh (previously 31.12 p/kWh, now offering savings of £35)

Customers charging their car off-peak on Next Drive Smart can save £509 per year compared to charging on the energy price cap.

Next Drive Fixed v13 rates:

  • Off-peak (12am – 6am): 7.5p/kWh
  • Day rate (6am – 12am): 31.13p/kWh (previously 33.38p/kWh, now offering savings of £61)

Customers charging off-peak on Next Drive Fixed v13 can save £485 per year compared to charging on the energy price cap.

Jean Coleman, director of commercial at E.On Next, said: “As more people across the UK seek meaningful ways to cut their energy bills and reduce their driving costs, the shift from traditional fuels to electric is accelerating – and we’re committed to helping make the switch more affordable.

“Our Next Drive tariffs have been designed to give customers greater flexibility, enabling them to charge their electric vehicles at lower cost overnight rates while still benefiting from competitive pricing during peak times. It’s about helping lower bills for everyone, making the move to electric not just easier, but smarter and more cost-effective for everyone.”

Other features for the Next Drive Smart or Next Drive Fixed tariffs include no exit fees, a free one-year subscription to the Zoom EV online platform, which gives benefits and discounts on things such as public charging and parking, plus a one-off donation to the Woodland Trust.
