Gridserve has launched its most powerful charger yet onto the Electric Highway network to dramatically reduce charging times.
Dynamic power sharing means the full 400kW can be modulated between both vehicles at the device
The new ABB E-mobility A400 delivers 400kW of ultra-rapid charging power, positioning it among the most powerful public chargers in the UK and capable of adding more than 100 miles of range in less than 10 minutes for cars with ultra-rapid charging capabilities. Furthermore, two CCS charging ports allow two vehicles to charge simultaneously, while dynamic power sharing means that the full 400kW can be modulated between both vehicles depending on their charging needs.
As well as offering faster and more reliable charging for drivers, the A400 charger also features an all-new 32-inch touchscreen interface, helping to guide drivers clearly through each step of the EV charging process – from plugging in to payment – and has been engineered to achieve a claimed industry-leading uptime and charging success rate in line with the requirements of the UK Public Charging Point Regulation (UK PCPR).
Making its debut at Centaurus Park in Bristol, the A400 will be introduced at the extended Moto Exeter Super Hub before Christmas, as well as the all-new Markham Vale Electric Forecourt, which opens next summer.
Gridserve said the launch represents a major step forward in its mission to deliver the fastest, most reliable and most convenient EV charging experience in the country.
The network has delivered more than 200 charging locations in five years, including coverage across 85% of the UK’s motorway network, and continues to expand its infrastructure and invest in the next generation of super-fast EV chargers.
Rebecca Trebble, chief customer officer at Gridserve, said: “Our goal has always been to make EV charging easy and as dependable as filling up your car with petrol or diesel.
“By partnering with ABB E-mobility to introduce the A400, we’re setting a new benchmark for performance and reliability, both for the Gridserve Electric Highway and for the UK. This technology allows us to deliver faster charging and an even smoother customer experience at scale.”
Behind the scenes, the Gridserve Innovation and Operations Centre (GIOC) remotely monitors and manages all charging assets 24/7, to ensure high availability, fast fault resolution and predictive maintenance across the network. The network also runs an in-house roadside patrol team.
