Gridserve voted most reliable network by Engineius drivers

A poll on EV charging points by logistics specialist Engineius has revealed its drivers’ favourite charging network and overall impressions of UK charging.

The clear winner for reliability among charging networks was Gridserve, followed by Tesla and InstaVolt

The multi award winning tech-enabled vehicle movement service has over 600 self-employed drivers and transport agents on its books who have daily first-hand experience of delivering multiple brand vehicles throughout the UK. Importantly, Engineius staff drive EVs and do not transport them, cutting both the cost and emissions involved with EV deliveries.

Such daily insights into EV usage means its drivers have considerable experience of charging en-route, rather than at homes/workplaces.

Chris Clibbery, director at Engineius, commented: “Owning an EV and charging it at home or your place of work is a very different experience from the nationwide driving/charging experience. Our drivers are working to agreed customer delivery times so charging efficiency is essential for them.”

Engineius polled 121 drivers on their thoughts on the UK’s charging infrastructure – including which network was the most reliable. Out of the 12 brand options presented to the drivers, all received votes, but the clear winner for reliability was Gridserve, followed by Tesla and InstaVolt.

On the downside, drivers also reported that they have up to seven different EV charging apps on their phones to facilitate charging at various geographical locations and brands throughout the UK, with 73% of drivers using more than one app.

Queuing is a further issue; 63% of drivers said they were likely to have to wait up to an hour before they could charge their EV, but it’s a matter of luck and depends on factors including the weather and the other vehicles in front being charged.

Clibbery concluded: “The move to electrification within fleets is happening, and at Engineius we adopt and support the most environmentally friendly practices and carbon offset our business to support the industry goal of net zero.”
