InstaVolt has officially become the first electric vehicle charge point operator in the UK to surpass the milestone of 1,000 locations nationwide, following its acquisition of 228 GeniePoint charging locations from Equans.

The strategic deal adds more than 260 chargers to InstaVolt’s expanding national footprint. Upon completion, the operator’s total network will scale to more than 4,250 chargers across approximately 1,200 locations.

The sites span local authority car parks, motorway services, retail and hospitality destinations. Over the next 12 months, they will be rebranded and upgraded to InstaVolt as the company continues to expand its national footprint.

A comprehensive upgrade programme will begin across the acquired estate, including enhanced grid connections, battery energy storage systems, improved signage and the deployment of BYD ultra-rapid charging technology.

The investment will increase the number of chargers at the acquired locations from more than 260 to over 400, while bringing InstaVolt’s customer proposition to every site. This includes simple contactless payment, industry-leading reliability with more than 99% uptime, and no requirement for subscriptions or memberships.

The acquisition also further strengthens InstaVolt’s partner portfolio, which already includes major consumer and property brands such as McDonald’s, Starbucks, Costa Coffee, British Land and LondonMetric.

This deal solidifies InstaVolt’s position as a leading UK public network and reflects the company’s continued investment in meeting rapidly growing demand for public EV charging.
