Irish charging firm EasyGo has landed a 20-year contract to provide EV charging infrastructure for the north of Scotland.

The contract, valued at some £300m, covers the Highland, Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray Council areas, with Highland Council acting as the lead authority.

It’s the first inter-council contract awarded as part of the Scottish Government’s Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Fund and the largest grant award in Scotland since the fund’s inception.

The large-scale EV infrastructure project includes the installation of 570 new EV charging points by 2028, alongside the management of 425 pre-existing council-owned chargers. The partnership also includes access to 50+ hub locations for high-capacity charging deployment.

The partnership is also EasyGo’s largest to date as it scales internationally. Founded in 2018, the business is a leading provider of electric vehicle charging solutions, operating over 4,500 chargers across more than 1,500 locations in Ireland.

Fiona Hyslop, Scotland’s transport secretary, commented: “I’m pleased that over £7m from the Scottish Government is transforming public electric vehicle infrastructure across the north of Scotland. Our £30m Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Fund has now been fully allocated to support this type of collaboration across the country and is expected to support the delivery of around 6,000 additional public charge points by 2030.”
