The Kia EV4 has become the brand’s first model to qualify for the maximum £3,750 Government Electric Car Grant (ECG), delivering significantly enhanced savings for both retail and fleet buyers on selected grades of the electric hatchback.
The move ups the discount from £1,500 to £3,750 for EV4 Air Standard Range and Long Range versions, and the newly introduced EV4 Motion grade.
The uprated grant level follows additional environmental sustainability evidence provided to the UK government and a reassessment of the European-produced battery used in the vehicle.
As a result, entry-level prices for the EV4 range now drop to £30,995 OTR for the lead-in Air model with Standard Range (58.3kWh) battery.
This means starting prices for the EV4 are now lower than the smaller EV3, which currently only gets the £1,500 Band 2 discount and starts from £31,555 for the Air Standard Range variant with the grant applied.
The EV4 Motion also qualifies for the grant, reducing the on-the-road cost by £3,750 to £36,745 OTR.
Sitting between GT-Line and GT-Line S, the new grade is focused on a high specification with an eight-speaker Harmon Kardon premium sound system, unique cloth and artificial leather upholstery, outer rear heated seats, surround view monitor, blind-spot view monitor and electric driver’s seat and lumbar support. As with most grades of EV4, the Motion is powered by a 204hp front-mounted electric motor and 81.4kWh battery.
The new Motion trim is exclusive to the five-door hatchback and is not available on the EV4 Fastback.
Kia EV4 GT-Line or GT-Line S grades don’t qualify for the ECG, but are available with the brand’s “generous” Q2 customer offers.
With this latest news, Kia now offers four models eligible for the Electric Car Grant – the EV2, EV3, EV4 and PV5 Passenger.
Further ECG news is due to land in the coming months, with EV2 Long Range models expected to qualify for the Band 1 £3,750 ECG, hot on the heels of the EV2 First Edition qualifying for the Band 2 grant in May.
