Leapmotor International – the joint venture between automotive giant Stellantis and China’s Leapmotor – has officially opened UK orders for its new B05 electric hatchback, a fresh rival to the Vauxhall Astra Electric and Volkswagen ID.3.
The Golf-sized hatchback is priced at £28,995 for retail buyers with the help of the brand’s self-funded £1,500 Leap-Grant that’s offered in lieu of the Government’s Electric Car Grant.
For company car users, who can’t access the inhouse Leap-Grant, the price is £30,495 OTR.
As with all Leapmotor models, the B05 is available in a single trim. Standard equipment includes a panoramic sunroof, 19-inch alloy wheels, frameless doors, automatic air-conditioning, automatic LED headlights and taillights, and electrically operated heated and folding exterior mirrors.
Smartphone Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity are also standard, along with an air-cooled wireless charging pad between the front seats. The interior features a 14.6-inch 2.5K pixel HD central floating touchscreen and an 8.8-inch instrument cluster, while the B05 gets a 12-speaker audio system.
Also standard are electrically adjustable front seats (four-way for the passenger and six-way for the driver) trimmed in certified eco-leather and dressed in bamboo charcoal upholstery.
The electric hatchback is powered by a 218hp rear-mounted motor. Complete with a built-in Launch Control system, the hatchback hits 0-62mph in just 6.7 seconds.
Under the skin, Leapmotor’s Cell-to-Chassis technology (CTC2.0+) integrates the 67.1kWh battery directly into the vehicle’s structure. This set-up delivers a competitive WLTP range of up to 300 miles and allows for ultra-fast charging, replenishing the battery from 30-80% in 17 minutes at a maximum speed of 174kW.
Supported by Stellantis’ global chassis experts, the B05 has been tuned specifically for European roads. It uses a McPherson front suspension set-up and an integrated rear multi-link arrangement that incorporates the rear motor to save weight. This gives the car a perfect 50:50 weight distribution, which works alongside the rear-wheel-drive layout to offer agile, engaging handling.
The coupé-inspired design makes the B05 one of the most aerodynamic vehicles in the sector while also delivering “exceptional family friendly practicality”. Rear passenger shoulder room is said to be excellent, along with generous headroom throughout. In addition, the rear seats feature a rake of 27 degrees and a 60/40 split fold function.
With the rear seats in place, the B05 has a total boot volume of 345 litres, which expands to 1,400 litres with the seats folded.
The B05 is the first Leapmotor model to feature 21 driver-assistance systems that allow Level 2 semi-autonomous driving, thanks to the introduction of an additional front sensor that enables four additional assistance systems.
Key technologies include advanced emergency braking, automatic lane change, lane keeping assist, blind spot detection, door open warning (for cyclists) and adaptive cruise control.
As with all Leapmotor models, the B05 gets a four-year/60,000-mile warranty. The battery comes with a separate eight-year/100,000-mile warranty.

It’s the latest model to arrive from Leapmotor International and joins the T03 city car, the new B10 compact SUV and the C10 SUV. Future models include the boxy B03X all-electric crossover SUV, which arrives this autumn to rival the electric Ford Puma and Renault 4.
