MG has added a full hybrid powertrain to the line-up for its recently revamped HS family SUV.

On sale now in both SE and Trophy grades, the Hybrid+ joins the existing 1.5-litre turbo petrol and the plug-in hybrid for the second-generation HS.
It’s priced at £28,995 for the SE, sitting squarely between the £25,995 pure petrol and the £31,995 HS Plug-in Hybrid, while the Trophy version is priced from £31,495.
Already available for the MG3 and MG ZS, the Hybrid+ teams up a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a front-mounted motor, 1.8kWh battery and two-speed auto transmission, giving a total 225hp of power that enables acceleration from 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds. Fuel economy is 51.3mpg (WLTP combined) and CO2 emissions are rated at 126g/km.
As with the other HS models, boot capacity is 507 litres while the HS Hybrid+ can support up to 75kg on its twin roof rails and there’s a towing capacity of up to 1,500kg (braked).
Equipment levels are carried over. Standard features include a pair of 12.3-inch displays. The infotainment screen features live navigation services including weather, live traffic updates, access to Amazon Music, and smartphone connectivity via both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Meanwhile, the driver’s display offers two themes – light and dark – and three distinct modes – Map, Digital and ADAS.
The Trophy model features a 360-degree surround view camera with real-time visualisation of the vehicle and its surroundings, powered by the driver assistance systems, and wireless smartphone charging.
The second-generation HS also comes with a new three-spoke steering wheel with improved switchgear, and a shuttle-style gear shifter, while SE equipment also includes automatic full LED headlights with follow-me-home function, rear parking sensors, rear parking camera, keyless entry, rain-sensing wipers and cruise control.
All models come with the MG Pilot package of advanced driver safety features, which delivers active emergency braking with pedestrian and bicycle detection, lane keep assist with lane departure warning system, blind spot detection with lane change assist, driver attention alert, forward collision warning, rear cross traffic alert and a door open warning as standard.
David Allison, head of product and pricing at MG Motor UK, said: “The Hybrid+ will be a great addition to our best-selling MG HS family, blending performance and SUV practicality with a super-efficient hybrid powertrain that keeps running costs down. Just like our recently introduced MG3 and MG ZS Hybrid+ models, we’re confident it will prove to be an extremely popular choice for both our existing and new customers alike.”
