Omoda&Jaecoo UK is fighting back against the Government’s planned EV road tax with a new ‘EV Tax Rebate’ for the Omoda E5 and Jaecoo E5.

The new rebate offers drivers the equivalent of 20,000 miles at 3p per mile – the amount that the Government is planning to charge drivers of fully electric cars from April 2028, as announced in the newly opened consultation from the Treasury.

The Omoda&Jaecoo UK manufacturer-funded saving will apply to qualifying vehicles purchased through its national retailer network using approved finance products.

Although the Government’s eVED tax will not come into effect for another three years, this saving can be used immediately on vehicles purchased through Omoda&Jaecoo’s national retailer network with an approved 48-month finance agreement. This ensures that the value of the rebate remains relevant over the full four-year term, effectively pre-covering a portion of the future tax burden during the life of the agreement.

With the average EV said to travel 8,740 miles each year, Omoda&Jaecoo UK intends to cover between two and three years’ worth of this new pay-per-mile EV tax.

The carmaker’s new EV Tax Rebate could potentially spark a new trend, as seen after the launch of the UK’s Electric Car Grant, when brands launched their own discounts for models ineligible for the scheme.
