Showcased at the Brussels Motor Show, the revised saloon/fastback aims to disrupt the competitive C-segment through enhanced choice and improved value, with prices starting from £31,995 for the hybrid and £38,495 for the plug-in hybrid. The brand has also narrowed the price gaps between the Allure, GT and GT Premium trims to deliver further value.
Notably, the fully electric E-408 is now priced at £34,195, or £32,695 with the Government’s £1,500 Electric Car Grant. That’s a big jump down from its £42,175 price tag when the E-408 joined the rest of the range at the end of 2024.
Powertrains for the hybrid and fully electric versions have been carried over but the plug-in hybrid gets an upgrade.
The entry level model is the 408 Hybrid, which as before features a 1.2-litre petrol with a 48V battery and electric motor built into the dual-clutch six-speed automatic gearbox. It delivers 145hp of power and its able to drive on electric alone for up to 1km at low speed.
The new plug-in hybrid features a 1.6-litre petrol engine, combined with a 125hp electric motor incorporated into the dual-clutch seven-speed automatic electrified gearbox. It’s good for 221hp and 360Nm of torque, while the 16.2kWh battery enables up to 50 miles of electric range, compared to around 40 before. It sits in the 10% Benefit-in-Kind bracket for 2026/7. A 3.7kW onboard charger is fitted as standard on Allure and GT trims, enabling the battery to fully recharge in three hours 25 minutes. GT Premium models come with a 7.4kW onboard charger, cutting the charging time to one hour 40 minutes.
The fully electric E-408 – now significantly cheaper than the plug-in hybrid – features a 58kWh battery (usable capacity), offering 210hp and 343Nm of torque. Electric range stands at up to 283 miles (WLTP), compared to 281 before, and the E-408 supports rapid charging up to 120kW. Three levels of regenerative braking are available, selected via the steering wheel-mounted paddles. The new E-408 also features battery pre-conditioning and vehicle to load (V2L) using an adapter available as an accessory from Peugeot retailers. GT Premium models also get a heat pump as standard, which is also available as an option on other trim levels.
The facelifted 408 also gets a sharper, more aggressive exterior styling refresh that aligns with the brand’s latest design language. Features include new ‘three-claw’ daytime running lights, and an updated, more integrated front grille with an illuminated Peugeot shield on GT and GT Premium trims.
The new 408 is also the first Peugeot to light up the brand’s lettering at the rear of the car, surrounded by a gloss black décor. Updated diamond-cut alloy wheels designs and a new Flare Green metallic body colour complete the exterior changes.
Updates to the cabin include new materials and instrument panel graphics, boosting looks and quality. The brand’s i-Cockpit carried over – featuring a specialised, driver-focused interior design concept. Allure trim gets the Peugeot i-Connect system with a 10-inch digital instrument panel and 10-inch HD touchscreen featuring wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. GT trim features i-Connect Connected Navigation and virtual i-Toggles, providing shortcuts that allow quick access to favourite climate settings, navigation to frequent destinations, phone contacts, preferred radio stations and more. On GT Premium, customers also gain a 3D digital instrument panel.
Other equipment includes full LED headlight technology, a gloss black front grille and door mirror shells, as well as dark-tinted rear windows on Allure versions. The entry trim also provides keyless entry and start, as well as adaptive cruise control with stop & go function. Technology delivers rear parking sensors & HD reversing camera; dual zone automatic air conditioning, and an electrochromic rear-view mirror, plus four USB-C sockets. E-408 Allure versions come with heated front seats and a heated steering wheel.
GT trim throws in Peugeot Matrix LED Headlight Technology, and the illuminated Peugeot shield and front grille. The interior features a grained leather steering wheel with GT logo and Alcantara facia and door panel inserts. Additional equipment includes an electric tailgate, lane position assist and front parking sensors.
For GT Premium version, the interior adds in three-stage heated front seats, eight-programme multi-point massage function and four-way electric lumbar adjustment. Additional driver assist include rear cross traffic alert, long range blind spot detection and a 360-degree camera system, while the audio experience gets an uplift with a 10-speaker Focal Premium Hi-Fi system.
