Peugeot’s venerated GTi label has returned and gone electric with the arrival of the E-208 hot hatch.
Debuted at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, it arrives four decades after Peugeot introduced the 205 GTi and is the first GTi model since the last-generation 308 exited in 2021.
Reworked by Peugeot Sport engineers and Peugeot designers, it’s marked out from the standard E-208 thanks to a body lowered by 30mm and tracks widened by 56mm at the front and 27mm at the rear.
It also gets a front spoiler, aerodynamic diffuser at the rear with integrated fog light, and an exclusive bright red body colour that echoes the first 205 GTis. Large 18-inch wheels are emblazoned with ‘Peugeot GTi’ and feature a perforated structure that’s a nod to the iconic ‘Hole’ wheels of the 205 GTi and also optimises brake cooling. They’re wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres.
The interior also pays homage to the 205 GTi with a central red trim and red mesh on the seats, along with bright red carpets, floor mats and seat belts. The compact steering wheel is wrapped in perforated red leather combined with Alcantara.
Billed as the most powerful and high-performing model in the B segment, it delivers 280hp and 345Nm from the front-mounted motor, resulting in 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 111mph. A limited-slip differential optimises cornering behaviour, steering has been sharpened and there’s a specific Sport mode that pauses driver assistance systems.
The 54kWh battery – up from 51kWh in the standard version – is good for a range of 217 miles in mixed WLTP cycle. It’s able to charge at up to 100kW DC, giving a 20% to 80% recharge in less than 30 minutes, and comes with a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function that allows an electrical device to be powered via the high-voltage battery.
Equipment includes the Peugeot i-Connect Advanced information system with TomTom connected navigation, ‘OK Peugeot’ voice recognition, and wireless mirroring function for Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.
Sales are expected to start towards the end of 2025, with prices yet to be announced.
