Roadchef powers up M74 corridor with new ultra-rapid EV charging hub

Motorway service operator Roadchef has expanded its electric vehicle infrastructure by launching six new ultra-rapid EV charging bays at its Hamilton Services on the M74.

The newly upgraded hub aims to cut downtime for long-distance drivers on one of Scotland’s busiest motorway corridors

The bays are served by three ultra-rapid chargers that offer 360kW charging capability with CCS connectors, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of electric vehicles.

Situated between junctions 5 and 6 in Scotland, the newly upgraded hub aims to drastically cut downtime for long-distance drivers on one of the country’s busiest motorway corridors.

Hamilton Services acts as a crucial transit point for motorists moving between Glasgow, Edinburgh and the north of England. The new charging bays will help meet growing demand for reliable ultra-rapid charging, on a corridor where the UK’s network of rapid and ultra-rapid EV chargers has grown 16% over the past year.

The latest expansion bolsters Roadchef’s work in future-ready infrastructure across the strategic road network, helping deliver more accessible and reliable charging facilities for EV drivers nationwide.

Walt Antrim, head of EV implementation at Roadchef, said: “Hamilton plays an important role in connecting drivers travelling across Scotland and beyond. By expanding our ultra-rapid charging network here, we’re making it easier for EV drivers to recharge quickly and continue their journeys with confidence. Investing in reliable charging infrastructure at key locations such as Hamilton is an important part of supporting the UK’s transition to electric vehicles.”

Alongside the charging facilities, Hamilton’s 24/7 services offer food and drink outlets, dog walking areas, HGV showers, convenience retail and rest facilities.
