Smart Charge, Sainsbury’s ultra-rapid EV charging network, along with Autotrader are marking World EV Day 2025 by bringing EVs directly to shoppers at Sainsbury’s Superstores.
The initiative runs across five Sainsbury’s Superstores
The initiative runs across five Sainsbury’s Superstores – Bamber Bridge, Warren Heath, Coreys Mill, Richmond and Fosse Park – transforming the weekly shop into a hands-on EV experience.
Shoppers can explore vehicles up close, take test drives, practise charging and learn how the Electric Car Grant can make the switch more affordable.
Existing EV drivers charging at participating Smart Charge hubs on World EV Day will also receive 1,000 bonus Nectar points.
Emma Williams, director of customer & commercial at Smart Charge, said: “We’re not just installing chargers, we’re creating experiences. By integrating EVs into the daily lives of shoppers, we’re helping people see how seamlessly electric vehicles can fit into their routines.”
Autotrader said it’s seen a surge in consumer interest in EVs since the announcement of the Electric Car Grant, which supports purchases of EVs priced under £37,000.
“We’ve seen the highest spike in EV demand in three years,” said Marc Palmer, head of insights at Autotrader. “Interest in eligible vehicles has nearly doubled, showing that financial incentives supporting greater affordability is key to consumers making the switch.”
