Monday

What we have here is the updated and improved Genesis Electrified GV70, not that you’d tell from a cursory glance. They like to do things subtly at the Korean luxury offshoot of Hyundai, and the GV70 nails that brief with an impact hammer. In the case of the GV70, you still have the ersatz Bentley Bentayga looks with none of the Brit’s running costs thanks to this car’s electric power.

Tuesday

Strewth, you really don’t want for comfort or kit inside the Genesis GV70. This car has the optional Nappa Leather (£2,500) and Comfort Pack (£1,070) that provide soft hide upholstery and massage function for those in the front. Yes, it’s a bit of extra on top to pay, but in a luxury car, you really want these extras as they make all the difference on a longer drive.

Wednesday

The light-coloured carpets are already showing a bit of grub and dirt from general use. Were this my everyday, all-day car, I’d fit over-mats to protect the standard rugs and better hide the mucky footprints. It’s a small thing, but mud on the carpets does somehow detract from the all-pervading sense of opulence inside the GV70 that is so key to its appeal.

Thursday

Using the GV70 for some errands today and the ride is exemplary on even the roughest roads. The 20-inch wheels remains resolutely unfazed by roads riddled with potholes, and the noise suppression in the Genesis’ cabin is second to none. It makes for a supremely quiet place to pass the miles, helped by the electrified drivetrain’s near absence of sound. That is a very underrated luxury.

Friday

Battery use and recharging are elements of GV70 use you will have to become accustomed to. The official claim is 287 miles on a full charge, but my experience is nearer 230 miles, with a usable range realistically of 140 miles between 20 and 80% charge. That’s a pity as, with another 100 miles on that range, this GV70 would go from being an appealing option to a downright no-brainer.

Saturday

Bless Genesis’ interior designers and tech boffins – they have kept the rotary controller for the infotainment. It makes it so much easier and better to interact with the system than trying to prod on-screen buttons, which is not always simple or safe to do on the move. It’s also easy and quick to disable unwanted safety bongs, so another big tick for Genesis on this front.

Sunday

There are very few downsides to the Electrified GV70. The boot is a bit on the small side and the driving range needs to improve but, as a luxury SUV for most driving needs and conditions, it’s hard to think of anything, at any price, that does it better. For the cost to fleet users, it does have serious rivals from the big names in this corner of the market, but I reckon the Genesis has a hold on my heart.
