AA’s new podcast launches with deep dive into used EV prices

The AA has launched a new podcast series, bringing together automotive experts and industry leaders to tackle the biggest questions facing motorists – starting with the rapidly changing used electric vehicle market.

The opening episode explores electric vehicles, featuring Jamie Muir from AA Cars and Charlie Cook, founder and CEO of Rightcharge

The Road Ahead is hosted by Jack Cousens, AA head of roads policy, with each episode taking a deeper look at a different motoring topic and the questions drivers want answered.

Subjects under the microscope will include road safety and the cost of driving, along with new technology and the changing way we travel, drawing on expertise from across the AA alongside guests from the wider motoring industry.

The opening episode focuses on electric vehicles, featuring Jamie Muir from AA Cars and Charlie Cook, founder and CEO of Rightcharge.

The trio address major hurdles for prospective buyers, detailing modern vehicle range, public versus home charging costs and the practicalities of owning an EV without a private driveway.

Affordability is also put under the spotlight. Muir highlights a major market shift, outlining that while electric vehicles have traditionally carried a premium, an expanding second-hand market means some used EVs are now becoming cheaper than petrol or diesel alternatives.

Additionally, the episode tackles battery life and degradation concerns. Drawing on both real-world data and personal driving experiences, the guests unpack the differences between home and public infrastructure, as well as how drivers can investigate the charging options available where they live and on the journeys they regularly make.

The conversation also looks ahead to the future of electric motoring and what could help more drivers make the switch.

Jack Cousens said: “The Road Ahead gives us the chance to have a proper conversation about the issues drivers are talking about and the questions they want answered. We want The Road Ahead to cover a wide range of issues affecting drivers, and in our next episode we’ll turn our attention to young driver safety.”

Episode two will explore the challenges facing young and newly qualified drivers and what could be done to make the roads safer.

Episode one of The Road Ahead with the AA is available to watch on the AA’s YouTube channel or you can listen to the audio podcast on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and other major podcast platforms.
