Transport for London (TfL) has extended its long-standing agreement with BP Pulse for on-street rapid charging rollout within the capital.

The framework agreement started in 2018 and has already seen the rollout of over 150 chargers across London and the surrounding areas, supporting the city’s growing EV adoption.

These chargers play a crucial role in supporting the adoption of electric vehicles across the capital, with a particular focus on providing dedicated infrastructure for the ride-hail and taxi sector.

A major upgrade programme is boosting this further, replacing some of the original units with the latest charging technology. Almost 130 next-gen chargers are already installed and a further five are set to go live by end of November in the final phase of the programme. These chargers are more reliable and are already seeing an average increase of 50% in usage compared to older units, demonstrating strong uptake among EV drivers.

TfL’s newly updated Electric Vehicle (EV) Infrastructure Strategy shows that London now has some 25,500 public charge points and indicates the capital will need between 43,000 and 51,000 public charge points in 2030, increasing to between 69,000 and 79,000 in 2035.

The extended agreement with BP Pulse forms part of this work to build a high-quality, dependable public charging network that keeps Londoners moving.
