Starting deliveries in the first quarter of 2026, the Urban Cruiser joins the bZ4X as Toyota’s second fully electric car and is twinned with the Suzuki e Vitara SUV under the carmakers’ ongoing collaboration.
The compact electric SUV grows Toyota’s presence in the highly competitive B-SUV market, where the Japanese brand also offers the full hybrid Yaris Cross model, expanding its ‘multipath technology approach’. It will be imminently joined by the larger C-HR+ electric SUV.
The Urban Cruiser sits on Suzuki’s new Heartect-e architecture designed specifically for BEVs to maximise battery capacity and onboard space.
While the platform may be Suzuki’s, styling uses Toyota’s new ‘Urban Tech’ theme and features its latest ‘hammerhead’ front-end and a striking rear light arrangement that spans the width of the back door.
The rear comes with a sliding system said to give rear passengers space that rivals larger models.
Two powertrains will be available, depending on grade.
The entry-level £29,995 version is solely available with the Icon grade and pairs a 144hp motor with a 49kWh battery for a WLTP combined range of up to 213 miles.
The top-rung version gets a 174hp motor and a 61kWh battery for a range of up to 264 miles. It’s available in Design and Excel grades, priced at £33,495 and £35,745 respectively.
The Icon grade equips the Urban Cruiser with 18-inch alloy wheels, a 10.1-inch multimedia display, 10.25-inch digital driver display, the sliding rear seat system and an air conditioning unit with an energy-saving heat pump. Safety and driving assistance features include blind spot monitor, rear-view camera, pre-collision system, adaptive cruise control, lane trace assist and road sign assist.
Design grade adds in heated front seats and steering wheel, auto-retracting heated door mirrors and a windscreen wiper de-icer, together with the higher-capacity battery.
The Excel version provides 19-inch alloys, a premium JBL sound system, wireless smartphone charger, a fixed glass sunroof with manual shade, LED headlights with an adaptive high-beam system, a panoramic view monitor and upholstery featuring a combination of fabric and high-quality synthetic leather. Customers can specify a metallic or premium bi-tone paint finish as an option.
