Volkswagen’s ID.4 and ID.5 have at long last been cleared for the UK’s Electric Car Grant, giving fleet and private buyers a £1,500 discount on selected versions.

Eligibility for numerous Volkswagen ID.3 models was confirmed on 16 August and their larger siblings now follow suit, again with the lower band 2 discount of £1,500.

With the discounts applied, the ID.4 SUV and ID.5 coupé-SUV now start from £35,495, while the ID.3 hatch is priced from £29,360 for the Pure Essential model.

The £1,500 ECG discount will be applied automatically at the point of purchase, with no requirement for customers to complete any paperwork or take additional steps.

Announced in July, the Electric Car Scheme gives savings of either £1,500 or £3,750 for models meeting strict technical and sustainability criteria. Volkswagen says it builds eco standards into its manufacturing process, from using hemp-based imitation leather in car interiors to supporting the large-scale expansion of renewable energies across Europe.
