Volkswagen’s ID.5 electric SUV-coupé is now available to order, alongside a new ID.4 Pro variant.

The ID.5 is priced from £50,550

Priced from £50,550, the ID.5 is the latest model to join the growing ID. family and is the brand’s second electric SUV after the ID.4. Also built on VW’s MEB platform, it brings a rival to models including the Audi Q4 e-tron Sportback, BMW iX3 and Kia EV6.

It’s solely available with Volkswagen’s 77kWh battery – the largest battery pack in the brand’s electric line-up – and has a range of up to 313 miles. Maximum recharging capacity is 135kW, giving a charge time of as little as 29 minutes to 80% at a rapid charger.

Three trims are available – Tech, Max, and the range-topping GTX Max – along with three power options. These cover a 174hp Pro version, 204hp Pro Performance and the 299hp GTX in the GTX Max.

The Pro power option is available in both Tech and Max trims and brings a 0-62mph time of 10.4 seconds for both and a top speed of 99mph. These models are priced at £50,550 and £54,050.

The step up to the 204hp Pro Performance power option cuts the 0-62mph time to 8.4 second but with the same 99mph top speed. It adds an extra £1,390 to the price tag, coming in at £51,940 for the Tech version and £55,440 for the Max.

The top-spec ID.5 GTX Max comes with a dual-motor all-wheel drive set-up, giving a 6.3-second 0-62mph time and 112mph top speed, but dropping range to 296 miles. It’s priced at £58,640.

All models get a panoramic sunroof and electric tailgate, along with ID.Light LED matrix headlights and 3D-LED tail lights. Equipment includes three-zone climate control, an augmented reality head-up display and 12-way electrically adjustable ArtVelour microfleece seats with massage function. Safety tech includes the Travel Assist semi-autonomous assistance system.

The mid-way ID.5 Max trims adds in 20-inch alloys, up-rated sports seats and the Sports Package Plus, which incorporates dynamic chassis control with driving profile selection, and progressive steering. Both the ID.5 Max and GTX Max also benefit from a heat pump, supporting more efficient use of the range.

At the top of the range is the ID.5 GTX Max; the second Volkswagen to wear the new GTX badge after the ID.4 GTX and expected to take around 15% of ID.5 sales. It’s marked out with bespoke bumpers and 20-inch alloys, along with a gloss anthracite finish for the roof frame and C-pillar. Inside, it gets exclusive seat upholstery with contrasting red stitching, dark blue leatherette door panels, GTX-branded door sill protectors, and GTX logos on the steering wheel and digital screens.

Volkswagen is also expanding its ID. family further with the new Pro variant of the ID.4 SUV. It’s fitted with the 77kWh battery and becomes the new entry-level model for the larger battery pack, lowering the price to £41,430 OTR with the Life specification and £44,945 in family trim guise.

The ID.4 Pro sits between the 52kWh 170hp Pure Performance, and the 77kWh 204hp Pro Performance, positioned as a range and efficiency-focused offering. It’s capable of up to 318 miles between charges and brings a 10.4-second time for the 0-62mph sprint along with a 99mph top speed.
