Zest, one of the UK’s fastest-growing public charging networks, has opened a new ultra-rapid hub close to Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter.

The derelict land on Park Road South, which decades ago was the site of Hockley Rail Station, has been regenerated as an EV hub with 16 charging bays, capable of speeds up to 300kW. There is also an InPost mail locker on site.

There are very few ultra-rapid charging options in this part of Birmingham, and at 65p per kWh the Zest hub significantly undercuts the local alternatives. Drivers can pay via the Zest app, using contactless or through roaming partner apps such as Octopus Electroverse and Plugsurfing. Commercial drivers can also charge using the Allstar app.

This launch follows similar urban charging hubs recently opened by Zest in Enfield, Leicester and Bolton as part of the company’s mission to expand EV infrastructure in underserved areas across the UK.

Public EV charging supports not just cleaner travel, but the ongoing regeneration of the area – attracting visitors, supporting businesses, and improving the environment for everyone.”
