Kia has announced pricing and equipment for its new EV6 and EV9 GT superfast flagships, which are now open for orders.
The new performance version of the EV6 – now the fastest-accelerating car Kia has ever produced – arrives following the recent facelift of the brand’s first dedicated all-electric vehicle and is “more dynamic, more refined and more ‘GT’ than before”.
It’s priced from £59,985 – that’s a £2,690 reduction compared to the £62,675 of the outgoing EV6 GT – while bringing more power, more kit and improved driving dynamics than its forebear.
Exterior design is boosted with a striking new light signature and more dynamic look. Standout design features include the neon green used for the brake callipers front and rear, piping throughout the interior and the ‘GT’ button on the steering wheel, plus front, electrically powered bucket seats.
As with the standard EV6, the new EV6 GT’s interior has received a significant overhaul, with new materials throughout.
The performance-orientated grand tourer is powered by an all-wheel-drive, dual-motor drivetrain that’s capable of producing up to 650hp and 770Nm of torque – an increase of 65hp (+11%) and 30Nm (+4%) over its predecessor. This allows the GT to complete the 0-62mph sprint in 3.5 seconds, onto a top speed of 161mph.
But it’s not just faster, it’s also able to go further. The new EV6 GT offers a range of up to 279 miles on a single charge – 16 miles more than the previous model – thanks to a new 84kWh battery pack that’s 8.5% bigger than the outgoing EV6 GT battery.
As with the previous version, the new, larger battery pack comes with 800V technology, enabling a peak charging performance of 258kW (+8% compared to the earlier EV6’s 239kW peak), and can be recharged from 10 to 80% in 18 minutes. The battery is also 1kg lighter than the previous pack, despite being larger, and offers vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability.
For the first time on any Kia vehicle, the EV6 GT is equipped with Virtual Gear Shift Virtual Gear Shift technology, simulating a six-speed paddle-operated transmission, featuring a rev counter and limiter. Paired with Active Sound Design and a redesigned ‘GT’ cluster theme, Virtual Gear Shift gives audible, tactile and visual cues as to when to change up as users work up through the gears.
The new performance Kia also now features an enhanced ‘GT Mode’, activated using the neon green button on the steering wheel. This sharpens up steering responses and puts maximum power and torque at the driver’s disposal, while changing the theme of the driver display screen, with exclusive neon green details and a new font for the speed and range readouts.
Echoing the major infotainment upgrade seen across the entire EV6 line-up, the new EV6 GT gets Kia’s next-generation infotainment system and connected car Navigation Cockpit, which comes with expanded over-the-air update software, access to the Kia Connect store, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus Kia’s digital key 2.0 and fingerprint recognition technology.
It’s available in a single trim level; all customers need to decide on is their choice of paint colour.
New Kia EV9 GT combines power and performance in a grand-touring SUV
The overhauled EV6 GT is joined by the new EV9 GT, which is marked out as the most powerful three-row Kia vehicle ever.
Also on sale now, the electric ‘grand tourer’ halo model for families is priced from £82,185 and starts UK customer deliveries late Q3.
Its dual-motor, all-wheel drive (AWD) powertrain endows the EV9 GT with 509hp across a wide power band (3,800-8,000rpm), with torque of 740Nm. The superfast EV9 can accelerate from 0 to 62mph in 4.6 seconds, with a top speed of 136mph.
It also gets Virtual Gear Shift (VGS) and dedicated ‘GT’ Drive Modes along with Electronically Controlled Suspension (ECS) as standard, as well as a Road Preview System to detect and react to changing road surfaces.
The 99.8kWh battery pack enables a WLTP combined range of up to 280 miles while the 800V fast charging architecture means the EV9 GT can charge from 10 to 80% in 24 minutes from a 350kW DC fast charger. As with the EV6 GT, the superfast EV9 is vehicle-to-load (V2L) capable.
Bespoke exterior and interior elements ensure the GT stands out among the EV9 line-up, highlighted by neon accents on the GT-exclusive steering wheel and sports seats. Outside, the GT-dedicated digital lighting grille shows ‘Energetic’ lighting patterns, and its exclusive 21-inch alloy wheels incorporate a distinctive design. In addition, large front brake callipers, in neon green with exclusive GT lettering, are part of a reinforced braking system.
Inside, dedicated power-adjustable front sport seats are trimmed with Alcantara suede inserts and focused on comfort, embossed with the GT logo. Exclusive to the GT, the interior is trimmed in dark grey and black faux leather and suede, with neon green accents.
Equipment includes Kia’s Premium Relaxation Seats and buyers can also choose from the standard three-seat bench layout or an optional six-seat layout, with new ‘relaxation seat’ functionality for the second-row seats – unique to the GT.
Other features deliver GT-exclusive graphics on the driver instrument screen through a triple panoramic display, customisable head-up display, ambient lighting scheme and a 14-speaker Meridian Premium Sound System.
