Octopus Energy has unlocked 50% cheaper kerbside charging for drivers without a driveway, making it easier and cheaper for motorists to go electric.
Through its Octopus Electric Vehicles (OEV) EV-only leasing company, new customers can now charge on-street from 22.5p per kWh (7p a mile).
The offer initially launches at 20,000 UK charge points from on-street charging specialists Ubitricity and Connected Kerb, and Octopus plans to rapidly expand the offer across more brands and locations.
OEV drivers will be able to scoop up the savings by powering up through the Octopus Electroverse public charging network.

“By cutting kerbside charging costs in half, even more drivers can enjoy the savings and simplicity of going electric – and we’re thrilled to help people from all corners of the UK join the EV revolution.”
Matt Davies, founder and director of Octopus Electroverse, has vowed to end the ‘driveway divide’ that has historically penalised electric vehicle owners without off-street parking.
Speaking on the launch of the new 50% discount for kerbside charging, Davies stated that overpaying to go electric has “never sat right” with the company.
“For too long, not having a driveway has meant paying more to go electric,” he commented. “But EVs are getting cheaper, technology is getting better, and now public charging is catching up, too.”
He described the current initiative as “just the start” confirming that Octopus is already moving to bring more networks onto its platform and has invited further charge point operators to join the scheme.
The offer comes after Octopus reported a 36% spike in EV leasing interest, as volatile fuel prices push more consumers towards the stability of electric.
The offer is now available for a limited time to new customers leasing an electric vehicle through Octopus EV.
