Priced from £29,358 (excl. VAT), the Chinese brand’s first-ever electric van in the UK converts the popular Dolphin hatchback into an electric delivery solution tailored to meet the needs of UK operators.
It’s the latest entrant to the UK’s fast-expanding electric car-derived van sector, following the recent debuts of Volvo’s new EX30 Cargo and the Ford Explorer Van.
The new model takes the all-electric hatch as its starting point, stripping out the rear seats and replacing them with a full metal bulkhead behind the front seats. This frees up a load capacity of 1,093 litres (including a 47-litre underfloor storage space). The maximum load length is 1,250mm, while the minimum load width (between the wheel arches) is 1,018mm, with a maximum width of 1,160mm – all within the Dolphin Cargo e-Van’s compact 4,290mm length. The maximum load height is 710mm.
The load floor area gains a phenolic ply-trim and is complete with additional underfloor storage and modular subframe. It’s complemented by hardwearing door cards and a bumper protection film to ensure a robust, fleet-ready solution. Added security can be provided by a number of rear window options including polycarbonate panels.
The powertrain is carried over from the electric car version and features a 204hp electric motor paired with the larger 60.4kWh battery, which uses BYD’s cobalt-free, LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) Blade technology. WLTP range is rated at up to 347 miles in urban driving and 265 miles combined. An optional 70mph speed limiter will also be available to support fleet optimisation and energy management.
The Dolphin Cargo e-Van’s specification is based upon the Dolphin Comfort trim, and the brand promises a high level of spec.
Vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology enables the new electric van to supply power directly to external equipment, supporting applications such as mobile servicing, site maintenance, portable lighting and tool charging without requiring additional power sources.
Standard equipment also includes a heat pump, heated steering wheel and heated front seats, which offer improved vehicle battery efficiency, plus a 360-degree parking camera and smartphone mirroring via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
To meet the diverse needs of commercial operators, BYD can also facilitate a range of bespoke upfit solutions, including reversing alarms, amber warning beacons, vehicle livery and customised storage configurations tailored to customer requirements.
BYD provides bespoke, fully customised upfitting for commercial fleets, tailoring vehicles directly to operational needs. Available modifications include custom storage systems, vehicle livery, amber warning beacons and reversing alarms.
