The 2026 update introduces a more accessible entry-level powertrain, a radical overhaul of the interior technology and hardware changes designed to satisfy driving enthusiasts.
The headline change is the introduction of a new 190hp variant. Designed to lower the barrier to entry without sacrificing the brand’s ‘electrified performance’ DNA, this new model features a 58kWh battery, delivering around 270 miles of range on a single charge, and can charge from 10% to 80% in around 28 minutes.
The 190hp motor ensures a “confident, engaging driving experience while maintaining the Tavascan’s driver‑focused character and progressive spirit”.
This new model sits alongside the existing 286hp and the range-topping 340PS VZ versions, creating a tiered line-up that caters for both efficiency-minded drivers and performance purists.
Inside, the Tavascan undergoes a significant digital transformation. The driver’s display has been enlarged to a 10.25-inch screen while the infotainment system is now powered by Android OS, bringing a native app store directly into the dashboard.
Cupra has also introduced a new steering wheel featuring physical buttons, responding to critics of touch-sensitive controls. The interior also gets a dynamic, intelligent climate control system. Using electric air vents, the car can pre-circulate air before the driver even enters, adjusting the flow based on the sun’s position and the number of occupants.
Other driver-orientated features include new ‘Launch Control’ functionality (exclusive to 77kWh models) and a one-pedal driving mode.
Cupra has also introduced a Mobile Device Key. Users can now unlock and start their vehicle via smartphone, with the ability to share digital access with up to five people. For those needing temporary access, a new Smart Card has been introduced.
Other additions include vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability. Using a dedicated adapter, the car’s high-voltage battery can power external devices, from laptops and e-bikes to professional sound systems, effectively turning the SUV into a portable energy source.
The audio experience has also been bolstered by a 12-speaker Sennheiser system. The new Contrabass uses psychoacoustic techniques and Sennheiser’s Concerto immersive technology for a “a rich, enveloping soundscape that fills the cabin with exceptional clarity and depth”.
Design changes for the bold exterior are minimal, although the palette has been expanded to include a new Midnight Black metallic finish.
Production is slated to begin in the coming weeks, with the first customer deliveries expected in late Q3 2026.
Cupra will also expand its line-up further with the imminent unveiling of the Raval as the brand’s “radical interpretation of the electric urban car”.
