Dacia has updated its Spring electric supermini with more power and performance.

The fully electric hatchback launched in October 2024 as one of the UK’s most affordable EVs and now receives an updated chassis, two new motors and a new battery.

The new motors, a 70hp unit and a 100hp unit, replace the previous 45hp and 65hp e-motors, offering up to 20% more power and torque between 50 and 75mph. Full performance details haven’t been announced yet.

Alongside this, Dacia has introduced a new 24.3kWh battery, replacing the 26.8kWh pack, and switching to lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology for the first time in the Renault Group. It’s said to offer optimised thermal safety, longevity and cost compared to traditional lithium-ion packs while still delivering up to 140 miles (WLTP mixed cycle).

Charging is optimised with a new 40kW DC onboard charger, compared with 30kW previously. Available on the Extreme trim level, it charges the battery from 20% to 80% in 29 minutes. A 7kW AC charger is still standard on all Spring models which, combined with the new battery, allows for faster charging from 20% to 100%, taking three hours 20 minutes instead of four hours on a 7kW wall box, and 10 hours 11 minutes on a domestic socket. Top-rung Spring Extreme versions also offer vehicle-to-load (V2L), allowing users to plug-in and power external electrical devices.

The new 70hp powertrain is available with the Expression trim, while the new 100hp powertrain comes with the Extreme grade.

Dacia has also updated the chassis with a stiffer structure and optimises weight distribution between front and rear, said to improve the overall balance of the vehicle.

Braking gets an update with more powerful assistance and the Spring gains an anti-roll bar for the first time, standard on all versions, improving stability in corners and further enhanced by the adoption of new settings for the shock absorbers and suspension springs.

The Spring also gets various aerodynamic improvements said to deliver a significant improvement.

Deliveries of the new Spring are expected in the new year. Prices haven’t been revealed but the current model is priced from £14,995.
